The tragic ordeal and ultimate death of Jyoti Pandey in Delhi has turned the eyes of the world to the 'rape problem' in India. It is no secret that shocking deficiencies exist with respect to the prosecution of rapists and the treatment of victims in India. A recent blog in the Washington Post correctly stated that India's rape problem is also a police problem.

Ladhar has submitted a 228 pages report in the March 29, 2012 Gurdaspur Police firing incident to the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Faridkot, Punjab (April 09, 2012): Another case of custodial death and torture is reported in Punjab. "The 35-year-old victim, Chamkaur Singh of Khosa Pando village, who had a 'kirana' shop in the village, was picked up by the police on the charges of drug trafficking on Friday (April 08, 2012) evening. He was allegedly tortured, which led to his death the next morning", reports The Tribune.
Chandigarh, Punjab (April 03, 2012): As per media reports, taking up a petition filed in public interest for removal of Sumedh Singh Saini from the post of Punjab Director-General of Police, the Punjab and Haryana High Court today asked the petitioner-NGO "Voices for Freedom" to prove its locus standi on the issue.
Gurdaspur, Punjab (March 30, 2012): On March 30, 2012, a day after the killing of a Sikh youth, Jaspal Singh in police firing; the Gurdaspur city continued to remain tense on Friday and also under curfew. The curfew however was relaxed for two hours from 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm for the convenience of the residents. As per reports, in a complaint to the police, Gurcharanjit Singh father of the deceased has alleged that assistant sub-inspector Joginder Singh had allegedly shot dead his son. But the police has registered a case under section 302 Indian penal code (IPC) "against unknown persons" after death of Sikh boy. No arrest has been made yet.
Patiala, Punjab (March 29, 2012): As per information received from Sikh Siyasat sources, three young Sikhs who were injured by police beating at Arya Samaj Patiala yesterday (March 28, 2012) are falsely charged with serious offences including "attempt to murder" under section 307 IPC.
Ludhaina, Punjab (March 28, 2012): The Punjab police has tightened the grip on Sikhs in Punjab, and a number of Sikhs are arrested today. Sikh leaders of Nawanshehr district who were arrested yesterday, were able to secure bail today but they were rearrested.
Amritsar, Punjab (March 29, 2012): Ten Sikhs are reported to have been arrested by the Amritsar police. Confirming the arrest of ten Sikhs, Police Commissioner Amritdsar R.P. Mittal said that these were arrested under the "preventive measures" of under section of 107/51 IPC.
Gurdaspur/Patiala, Punjab (March 29, 2012): As per information available from various sources the police today opened fire on Sikhs who had gathered at a Gurudwara Sahib in Gurdaspur to prevent right wing Hindu organization Shiv Sena from burning effigy of Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana, a Sikh political prisoner who is on death row.

Patiala (December 08, 2011): Sikh Students Federation has raised it’s grave concern over Supreme Court of India’s decision in the case of enforced disappearance of three relatives of Professor Devender Pal Singh Bhullar and has term the decision as most unfortunate. Supreme Court yesterday set aside the Punjab and Haryana High Court order directing CBI inquiry into the matter, on mere ethical ground that High Court judge ordering the inquiry had certain reason for prejudice against one of the accused police officer.
New Delhi, India (December 07, 2011): The Supreme Court of India today quashed a Punjab and Haryana High Court order directing the CBI to investigate the enforced disappearance of three innocent Sikhs, including son of a former IAS officer and the father and uncle of Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar, in 1991.
New Delhi, India (December 06, 2011): Supreme Court of India may pronounce it's decision in case related to killing of father, uncle and friend of Professor Devender Pal Singh Bhullar. Senior Police officers, including IPS (Indian Police Services) officers are facing the charge. Professor Bhullar's father, uncle and friend were abducted by Punjab Police in 1991 and were never heard upon thereafter, a CBI investigation, carried under the directions of Punjab and Haryana High Court in 2008, has revealed.
