Bombay High Court May Hear Petition Against Maharashtra For Publishing Anti Sikh Material

Chandigarh:  The Bombay High Court may today take up the petition filed by Amritpal Singh Khalsa against the state of Maharashtra for hearing. The petition so filed is pertaining to an anti-Sikh academic material published in the text book for the students of Class 9th by the state’s education board in which it has dubbed  Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale a Sikh leader who was leading a Sikh civil rights movement during early 1980’s in a shoddy and negative light and addressed him as ‘terrorist’.

This matter was brought up before the division bench comprising of Justice Mohta and Justice Prabhudesai. Moreover, the petitioner has earlier requested that  the bench should hear the filed petition on priority bases but the same was turned down by the bench. However, the bench  has agreed to take up the respective matter on Friday, 21st July 2017 for hearing.

Copy of the petition letter with relevant documents as show cause notice has been sent to the Education commissioner, Maharashtra Prathamik  Shikshan Parishad in Mumbai. Regarding as to why Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale has been termed as terrorist in the text book published by the board.
