Chinese Globes Sold In Canada Shows The State Of J&K As An Independent Entity

January 5, 2018 | By

Toronto: As per the media reports, a small globe purchased by Toronto based Sandeep Deswal for his 6 year old girl named Ashmita Deswal on New Year’s Eve turned out to be a whammy for them, as they examined the globe after reaching home they found that the state of Jammu and Kashmir had been shown as separate from India.

It was when their daughter began to ask ‘Where’s India? Where’s Canada?’ that they came to know about the representation of the state of Jammu & Kashmir.

Talking to the media sources Sandeep Deswal said that he would raise the matter with the store in question. But he was concerned over how the erroneous depiction of Indian territory would influence children of Indian-origin like his daughter. “If we don’t tell her Kashmir is an integral part of the country, she will get a different image of India. The next generation will believe something else,” he claims in his statement.

An Indo-Canadian organisation has taken the notice of this incidence and is making an effort to have stores pull them and become aware of the sensitivities involved. Azad Kaushik, president of the one of such organisations reportedly said, “An inaccurate depiction of the map on the globe defeats its educational purpose for a student.”

Without naming China, he alleged that “A country can now freely engage in a veiled war through business and trade practices by influencing young minds with long-term consequences. The manipulation of a map on an educational globe is but an example of a new kind of war through business in a globalised world.”

Furthermore, Azad Kaushik who also heads the Indo-Canadian organisation called National Alliance of Indo-Canadians (NAIC) has purportedly said that “using the power of social media, directly raising the matter with the concerned business and raising the matter in the corridors of power,” reports Hindustan Times (HT).
