Hoshiarpur: Continuing with its practice of honouring Sikh historical personalities, Dal Khalsa has resolved to organize a ‘Khalsa March’ to pay its tributes to Sikh warrior of yesteryear Baba Baghel Singh, who is credited with the unfurling of Sikh Flag atop the Red Fort in 1783.

To commemorate the historic event popularly called as “Fateh Divas”, a convention will be organized on March 15 at Hoshiarpur and subsequently a march will be held in the city.

Dal Khalsa secretary Ranbir Singh and SYP head Paramjit Singh Tanda announced the programme after presiding over the recently held meeting of office bearers. “Our aim is to ignite the spirit of Sikh Sovereignty in the present generation and to connect them with their historical and cultural roots”, they said.

They said the interests of Sikhs and Punjab were the sole concern of Baba Baghel Singh, while the focus of the present Akali leadership was to mint money and enjoy power. We are passing through a critical phase and there was a need to re-strategize our plans to attain the Panthic objectives.

The meeting took serious view of the “growing attack” on the minorities and oppressed classes from the RSS and its affiliated ABVP. The goons of ABVP under the patronage of their political bosses in power (read BJP), were threatening their critics including Gurmehar Kaur who have spoken against their goondaism, said youth leader.

Justifying their support to students of Ramjas college and Punjab University who faced the wrath of the ABVP, they asserted that Khalsa was created to confront the oppressive class regardless of the religion it represented. In order to thwart the nefarious designs of the fascist forces, we would formalize the strategy during the convention, said they.

Among others who were present included Nobeljit Singh, Paramjit Singh Mand, Harjot Singh, Gurpreet Singh and Manjit Singh.
