Bhai Manmohan Singh was one of the founding member of the Dal Khalsa. He was an active member of the Sikh diaspora in England who actively campaigned against human rights violations of various nationalities by the Indian state and was a firm supporter of the cause of Sikh independence.

Bhai Manmohan Singh had left India in 1982 after the Dal Khalsa was banned by the Indian state and could not return to his motherland as he was blacklisted by the Indian government. In recent past, when he was reportedly approached by Indian officials to return to the Indian mainstream, he had outrightly rejected the offer and declared that he would prefer to die in exile than to agree to the terms of the Indian state.
