Jagtar Singh Jaggi Gets Bail in Bajakhana Case; Update from Advo. Jaspal Singh Manjhpur

January 17, 2019 | By

Chandigarh: Arrested British citizen Jagtar Singh Johal @ Jaggi’s lawyer Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur today released a video message sharing an update that Jagtar Singh Johal has been granted bail by a Faridkot court in a case registered at PS Bajakhana vide FIR No. 163/2017 under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and Arms Act.

Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur said that this case was initially registered against one Gurpreet Singh Preet who was released on bail after the police had failed to present chargesheet against him. One Jagjeet Singh Jammu was also booked by police in this case who had got bail from Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Later, in 2018, the police had arrested Taljeet Singh @ Jimmy in this case after his arrival from England. Few days after Taljeet Singh Jimmy’s arrest Jagtar Singh Johal @ Jaggi was also arrested in this case.

Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur said that on January 8, 2019 the court of Additional Sessions Judge Rajesh Kumar had directed the petitioners, Taljeet Singh Jimmy and Jagtar Singh Johal, to get bail from the court of Judicial Magistrate. He said that on January 15 the court of judicial magistrate Chetan Sharma granted bail to Taljeet Singh Jimmy and Jagtar Singh Johal and directed due to furnish requisite bail bonds.

Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur said that Taljeet Singh Jimmy is expected to be released on bail in coming days as the NIA has discharged him in other cases for which he was previously arrested by the Punjab police and the NIA.

Lawyer, however, added that the grant of bail is not going to result in release of Jagtar Singh Johal at this stage as he has six NIA cases pending against him and the persecution agency has got the trial proceedings stayed from the Supreme Court of India. He further added that there is one case in which NIA has not yet arrested Jagtar Singh Johal and in another case related to the killing of Jagdish Gagneja, no one is formally arrested by the NIA. It is notable that Punjab police chief and Punjab CM had maintained in a joint press conference held in November 2017 that this case was solved with the arrest of Jagtar Singh Johal and others. He said that in India prosecution agencies keep cases like to ensure that arrested persons stay behind the bars. He suspected that if Jagtar Singh Johal gets bail in other cases then the agency would arrested him in these two cases so that he could not be released despite getting bail in other cases.
