Jodhpur Incident: Punjab Govt. announces closure of Noormehal Dera’s branch; Forms probe panel

Jodhpur/ Tarn Taran, Punjab: Sikh bodies held a mass gathering at village Jodhpur near Tarn Taran where a srrop of Guru Granth Sahib was burnt by Noormehal Dera followers on December 01. The gathering was called to ensure closure of controversial Dera’s Tarn Taran based branch and arrest of culprits who had burnt saroop of Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh, Anadpur Sahib Jathedar Giani Malh Singh, Damdami Taksal (Sangranwan) chief Baba Ram Singh, Damdami Taksal (Ajnala) Chief Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala, Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar (Mann) president Simranjit Singh Mann, Sikh Youth Federation (Bindranwale) leader Balwant Singh Gopala and SAD (Mann) leader Dhian Singh Mand, besides representatives of various other Sikh organizations attended today’s samagam.

The Punjab government today announced to sealed the Tarn Taran based Noormehal Dera. The state government has reportedly constituted a ‘special investigation team’ under the supervision of Commissioner of Police, Amritsar and SSP Gurpreet Singh Gill and asked them to submit a report within 48 hours.

Giving out details Tarn Taran SSP Manmohan Kumar Sharma said that the Punjab government had constituted a Special investigation Team (SIT) under the Supervision of Amritsar Commissioner of Police Jatinder Singh Aulakh and SSP Gurpreet Singh Gill who will inquire into the matter and submit a report to the state Government within 48 hours. He said that he has sealed the Tarn Taran Based Noormehal Dera and to avert any untoward incident heavy police person have been deployed outside the Nurmahal Dera.

Akal Takht Jatherdar Giani Gurbachan Singh said that he has met with the Punjab Chief minister Parkash Singh Badal along with the Anadpur Sahib Jathedra Bhai Malh Singh, SGPC member Rajinder Mehta and former Jathedar Jasbir Singh Rode. Giani Gurbachan Singh said that the Punjab chief Minister assured them to take strict action against those who were responsible for the sacrilegious act of burning saroop of Guru Granth Sahib and ordered to seal the Dera with the immediate effects.

He said that it was necessary to seal the Tarn Taran based dera of Noormehal based Diya Jyoti Jagran Santhan for the peaceful atmosphere in the state.

He said that the Jodhpur incident was happened due to the negligence of the Gurdwara Granthi and committee members and they should also be held responsible.
