Srinagar, Kashmir (March 14, 2013): There are reports of Curfew being clamped in Srinagar on March 14 (Thursday) after the death of a 22-year-old protester in firing by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Wednesday (March 13).

“Reports suggest that CRPF troopers had opened fire on the protesters who were throwing stones on their vehicles, killing Altaf Ahmed Wani in Saidapora area near Eidgah in Srinagar”, reports ZEE TV.

As per some reports the vehicle of CRPF personnel was on its way to Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) hospital, where the victims of Bemina attack were admitted, when it came under attack.

“However, some reports also say that no protests were held by the people and CRPF vehicles were not targeted.” ZEE TV report reads.

The ruling National Conference has termed the death of Wani as a ‘cold blooded murder’.

Nasir Aslam Wani, NC’s provincial president said that the 22-year-old was innocent and said that the party will ensure that deceased’s family gets justice.

Meanwhile, Kashmiri leaders who support the idea of freedom for the people of Kashmir have called for a shutdown against the youth’s killing.

It is notable that Indian occupant authorities have enforced Armed Forced Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in Kashmir. According to Amnesty International, an international human rights body, AFSPA has turned Kashmir into impunity zone.
