Our vote base is intact and AAP is no fear for SAD: Sukhbir Badal

February 18, 2016 | By

Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) president and Punjab Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal has maintained that after the result of Khadoor Shaib by-election the SAD was not afraid of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which was just “a new kid on the block”.

Sukhbir Badal said that the AAP had effectively used the social media during the Lok Sabha elections, however, he added that this marketing trick would not work for AAP again.

SAD president said that the Congress party stood disconnected with the masses. The Congress and AAP announced they were boycotting the byelection. Yet the voter turnout was 58 per cent with over 80,000 votes polled in favour of the SAD (Badal) candidate.

He maintained that the vote bank of the SAD (Badal) was intact and the party had no fear before going into Punjab polls 2017. He said that the Khadoor Sahib victory of SAD (Badal) has prove that the critics of the ruling party were wrong.

Asked if the 2017 Assembly elections would be fought with Sukhbir Badal as the CM candidate, he said while he would continue to be the “main poll strategist”, his father would remain the party’s face, notes The Tribune.
