Switzerland: After the Portugal authorities rejected India’s plea for extradition of UK based Sikh activist Paramjeet Singh Pamma, Switzerland based Movement Against Atrocities and Repression (MAR) issued a thanksgiving statement:
“[O]n behalf of Movement Against Atrocities and Repression (MAR), we would like to thank all the organizations, Gurdwara’s and the community in their efforts and strong lobby to prevent the extradition of Parmjit Singh Pamma to India.
In particular, we would like to thank United Nations bodies, UNHR, for their time and advise on human rights issues relevant to the case. MAR would also like to thank the Commission Against Torture for their guidance and transmission of information. MAR filed a complaint for intervention to prevent refugee Parmjit Singh from extradition to India which was in violation of the convention against Torture and the 1951 Refugee Convention and would like to thank the bodies that advised action in this direction.
The time and attention given to meetings with defense lawyers Mr. Amarjit Singh Bacchu, Mr Gurpatwant Singh Pannu (SFJ) and Mr Manuel Ferera that resulted in the necessary intervention needed to prevent Pamma from being extradited to India, paid off. Its mention worthy that in Jan 2016 Mr Dabinderjit Singh sikh federation UK along with Marmovement met UNHR .
The Movement Against Atrocities and Repression (MAR) which was founded in (2004) to protect Human rights, provide relief to the needy, anti-racism, the right to uphold your identity, and dialogues for change.”
