Panth Remembers Its Warrior: Shaheedi Day of Bhai Dilwar Singh observed at Akal Takht Sahib

Amritsar: Pro-Freedom Sikh groups today observed the death anniversary of Shaheed Bhai Dilawar Singh who had attained martyrdom to free Sikhs of Punjab the clutches of usurper Punjab CM Beant Singh on 31 August 22 years ago and vowed to carry on the mission of martyrs.

Notably, the Akal Takhat has bestowed the title of great martyr on Bhai Dilawar Singh 6 years ago. The SGPC appointed jathedar and the “parallel” jathedar stayed away.

SGPC’s second rung functionaries attended the function while head priest of Akal Takhat bestowed the siropa to the family members of Dilawar Singh. The bhog of Akandh Path was performed and a simple ceremony was held on the first floor of the Akal Takhat.

Interestingly, Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara the imprisoned jathedar of Akal Takhat nominated by November 10 Panthic Gathering at Village Chabba sent his message which was read out by S. Gurcharan Singh. Paying rich tributes to his fellow colleague, he stressed on the need for Panthic unity to accomplish the mission for which martyrs like Dilawar Singh have sacrificed their lives.

Dal Khalsa president Harpal Singh Cheema and Kanwar Pal Singh while paying homage to Dilawar Singh took a dig at the SGPC for organizing such functions halfheartedly.

Representatives of Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar (Mann), Dal Khalsa, Akhand Kirtani Jatha and Sikh Youth of Punjab beside Bhai Satnam Singh Khandewala and other former Panj Piyare of Akal Takht Sahib were present on the occasion.
