Amritsar, Punjab (June 25, 2014): Dal Khalsa has written a letter to New Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Shri Najeeb Jung bringing to his notice theindifferent attitude of Tihar jail authorities towards the prisoner Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara- who is suffering from some ailment in his spinal cord.

Pertinently, Hawara is presently lodged in high security Tihar jail (No 1) serving life imprisonment till ‘death’ in connection with former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh’s assassination case.

Party head H S Dhami said from the last one month, Hawara was complaining of severe pain in his spinal cord and leg and is unable to move without wheelchair. The pain is unbearable and the pain-killer pills provided by jail doctor are not giving him a relief. The jail authorities have ignored his suffering and till date have not provided a proper medical treatment to him, alleges Dhami.

He urged Shri Najeeb to intervene and instruct the jail superintendent to get Hawara thoroughly medically check-up by some specialist doctor either by shifting him to hospital or bringing the team of doctors to jail. Not providing the proper medical treatment to a prisoner is inhuman and violation of prisoner’s human right and jail manual, he pointed out.

“We are urging you on humanitarian ground and expect positive response from you”, reads the letter sent to Lt Governor through e-mail and fax.

Dhami categorically mentioned in his letter that Hawara has narrated his pain and agony and also indifferent attitude of jail authorities to his relatives and near and dear ones, who met him at Tihar jail in the recent days.
