Amritsar: The activists of Sikh Youth of Punjab, held prayers for the well-being, high spirits and freedom of Bandi Singhs at Sachkhand Darbar Sahib on the eve of Bandi Chhor Divas.
They also prayed for the success of the drive initiated by the Panthic organisations for their release.
The members of the organisation stood peacefully outside main entrance of Darbar Sahib for 2 hours carrying placards related to Bandi Singhs. They were carrying placards carrying pictures of Jaggi Johal, recently arrested Sandeep Singh Sunny and Amritpal Singh apart from the militants who have completed their jail term.
The youth promised to continue their democratic struggle against what they termed as the government’s injustice towards these detentions. The leaders of the youth organisation said that their chorus for release of Bandi Singh should not be construed as any mercy. After the completion of sentence, release is a fundamental and human right of every prisoner, and that the Indian government was violating their fundamental rights by not releasing them.
Youth leader and president of the youth organization Gurnam Singh Moonak said that the issue of Sikh political prisoners dominates Panthak politics since 2019, when GoI issued notification for the release of few but backtracked at last moment.
Talking to journalists, he said that the Shiromani Committee, Dal Khalsa, Maan Dal and certain organizations are pooling their efforts for the release of these prisoners, but the central governments and their governors are making U-turns on their promises. They appealed to the Shiromani Committee to give an ultimatum to the Narendra Modi govt and wage a struggle, saying that the governments wont listen nor deliver justice without a fight.
He said that it is a matter of tragedy that instead of releasing those who have completed their prison term, the government has sent about 10 Sikh youths to Dibrugarh under NSA without any solid legal reasons.
The vice-president and General Secretary of the organization, Maan Singh and Satbir Singh, clarified that Modi-Shah and Kejriwal were blocking the release of these prisoners, and the troika was responsible for keeping them under detention illegally and thus violating the basic human rights of prisoners.
