Stockton Sikh Gurdwara Sahib Passes Resolution Against Dastan-E-Miri-Piri and Motherhood Movies

Chandigarh: The Sikh sangat at Historic Sikh Gurdwara Sahib of Stockton in United States of America (USA) passed a resolution against depiction of Sikh Gurus, families of the Sikh Gurus, Great GurSikhs, Sikh Shaheeds and Sikh Sanskars in feature films, cartoon or animation films, dramas or any other modes of depiction, whether still or moving.

The resolution was read to the Sikh Sangat in full and it was approved unanimously on June 2, 2019. A copy of resolution was sent to the Films Review committee of the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) and the Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib.
Dastan-e-Miri-Piri Not to be Screened Across Victoria, Australia:
The Sikh sangat of Melbourne held a demonstration against a Cinema Hall on 2 June, 2019 to protest against proposed screening of the Dastan-e-Miri-Piri movie, which violates Sikh tenets by depicting Sikh Gurus.
It is learnt that after the protest, the Cinema halls across Victoria have decided to drop the screening of the movie.
It may be recalled that it is an established Sikh tradition that personification or visual representation of Sikh Gurus in any form was not permissible but for past few years makers of cartoon or animation movies are violating this tradition.
The basis of the tradition is grounded in Gurbani itself which make it clear that Guru’s Shahbad is the ‘form’ of the Guru. But movies like Sahibzadey, Moola Khatri, Chaar Sahibzaade, Chaar Sahibzaade -2 Rise of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, Nanak Shah Fakir, Bhai Taru Singh Ji, Dastan-E-Miri-Piri and Motherhood violate Sikh principles and present Gurus in form of film characters.
