Patiala, Punjab (February 19, 2013): It is learnt that Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana, who is facing death sentence in Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh assassination case, has once again refused to appeal against his death sentence and reasserted his readiness to go to gallows.

Amritsar, Punjab (February 11, 2013): As per certain media reports Hindu organizations including Vishav Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Shiv Sena (Bal Thakrey) today protested against delay in execution of a Sikh political prisoner Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana, who was sentenced to death in connection with the assassination of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh.

Patiala, Punjab (February 06, 2013): It is learnt that a local court in Patiala (Punjab) has sentenced Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana to 10 years rigorous imprisonment under an Explosive Act case.
Patiala, Punjab (February 03, 2013): As per media reprots Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana, who has been sentenced to the death by an Indian court for the assassination of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, and is lodged at the jail in Patiala, was supposed to be presented in the court on January 28, 2013 but he was not presented in the court due to alleged security reasons.
Rajpura/Patiala, Punjab (January 22, 2013): Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana, who was brought to Rajpura by Punjab police under tight security on January 21, 2013 for court appearance in two different cases, has reportedly told media persons that he would not support any of the contestants in Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) polls that are scheduled to be held on January 27, 2013.
Patiala, Punjab (January 21, 2013): As per information available with Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana was brought out of Patiala jail for the first time after the postponement of death sentence in March 2012.
Patiala/Ludhiana, Punjab (December 24, 2012): According to Daily Pehredar, a local Punjabi daily, Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana has recently issued an appeal to the Sikh nation to recite Gurbani in the memory of Chhote Sahibzade, the younger sons of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, who were martyred by Wazir Khan, Nawab of Sirhind in 1705.The appeal has been issued by way of a letter from prison, as Bhai Rajoana is currently confined in Patiala Jail.
Patiala (July 25, 2012): As per media reports, Bibi Kamaldeep Kaur, sister of Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana, whose is facing death sentence in Punjab CM Beant Singh assassination case, has demanded that his trial in a 17-year-old case regarding recovery of explosives be completed early, as police were causing inordinate delay in the case by not producing Rajoana in the court.
Gurdaspur, Punjab (June 21, 2012): A protest rally held by various Sikh organisations in Gurdaspur to demand the arrest of the killers of Bhai Jaspal Singh (18) of nearby Chorh Sidhwan village, who was killed in police firing during a bandh on March 29, passed off peacefully on Wednesday, (June 20, 2012).
Ludhiana, Punjab (April 16, 2012): During the Punjab bandh declared by various Sikh organizations protesting against the execution of Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana, a Sikh political prisoner at Central Jail Patiala, many Sikh leaders were arrested. Punjab government kept them under so-called "preventive detention".
Amritsar, Punjab (13 April, 2012): Bhai Mohkam Singh, former Damdami Taksal Spokesperson and Convener of Khalsa Action Committee and #Sikh preacher Baba Baljeet Singh Daduwal were released from different jails of Punjab yesterday. Some other Sikh activists were also released. They were kept under so-called "preventive detention" since 28 and 29 March, 2012.
Gurdaspur, Punjab (April 08, 2012): The last rites, called 'bhog' ceremony, of Bhai Jaspal Singh (18), who was killed by police firing during Gurdaspur incident on March 29, was observed at his native village Jorh Sidhwan, near Gurdaspur on April 07, 2012. Jaspal Singh was shot at while he was participating in peaceful protest opposing hanging of Sikh political prisoner Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana.
Ludhiana, Punjab (March 31, 2012): Last two days were days of suspicion and rumours. Many Sikh sections believed that the government of India could go to any extent to hang Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana on March 31, 2012. This belief was not a mere baseless suspicion; the track record of Governmt of India supports it. In 1992 Bhai Harjinder Singh (Jinda) and Bhai Sukhdev Singh (Sukha) were scheduled to be hanged on October 9. Both had decided not to appeal against death sentence awarded by Indian Courts. A Chandigarh based Sikh moved a petition to the President of India u/Article 72 of Indian Constitution. The Cabinet of Government of India held a late night meeting on October 8, 1992 to reject the petition and clear the hanging of Bhai Sukha-Jinda. Accordingly they were hanged on October 9, 1992 @ 4 am IST.
Patiala, Punjab (March 31, 2012): As per information available with Sikh Siyasat, Paramjeet Singh, fourth Sikh who was injured during clash at Arya Samaj area of Patiala, is also removed from Rajindra Hospital by Patiala police. Reliable sources revealed that Paramjeet Singh got discharged from hospital by the Police and was immediately arrested from the Hospital premiss yesterday evening.
Gurdaspur, Punjab (March 30, 2012): On March 30, 2012, a day after the killing of a Sikh youth, Jaspal Singh in police firing; the Gurdaspur city continued to remain tense on Friday and also under curfew. The curfew however was relaxed for two hours from 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm for the convenience of the residents. As per reports, in a complaint to the police, Gurcharanjit Singh father of the deceased has alleged that assistant sub-inspector Joginder Singh had allegedly shot dead his son. But the police has registered a case under section 302 Indian penal code (IPC) "against unknown persons" after death of Sikh boy. No arrest has been made yet.
New Delhi, India (March 30, 2012): Supreme court of India today refused to entertain the petition seeking stay on hanging of Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana, filed by an Advocate in Public interest. Earlier today LFHRI withdrew it's petition seeking stay on execution of Balwant Singh Rajoana. As the death sentence of Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana is already temporarily stayed by Government of India as a part of procedure followed in entertaining the Presidential review petition moved by SGPC under Article 72 of the Constitution of India, therefore LFHRI decided to withdraw the petition from Supreme Court to avoid any adverse effects.
Patiala, Punjab (March 29, 2012): As per information received from Sikh Siyasat sources, three young Sikhs who were injured by police beating at Arya Samaj Patiala yesterday (March 28, 2012) are falsely charged with serious offences including "attempt to murder" under section 307 IPC.
