The Government of India (GoI) last Saturday (Sept. 28) announced that it has decided to grant premature release to 8 out of 22 Sikh political prisoners who were sentenced to imprisonment for life and are confined in various jails across the Indian sub-continent.
Sikh Political Prisoner Bhai Gurdeep Singh Khera (55), who is undergoing life sentence at the Central Jail Amritsar, married Bibi Gurjeet Kaur of Anandpur Sahib at a Gurdwara Sahib near Rayya on Friday.
In a written statement issued on May 02, the Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar (Mann) sought apology from Bhai Gurdeep Singh Khaira for party's failure to visit him in Gulberga jail Karnataka during past two decades.

Sikh political prisoner Gurdeep Singh Khera could not be transferred to Punjab yesterday. While the state governments of Punjab and Karnataka have already cleared his jail transfer from Gulbarga jail in Karnataka to Central Jail in Amritsar (Punjab), his jail transferred is delayed by some transportation hurdles.
Sikh political prisoner Gurdeep Singh Khaira, who was lodged at Gulberga jail in Karnataka since 1990, is expected to be transferred to Punjab today. Sources said that all formalities and paperwork was already compete on the part of both state governments – Punjab and Karnataka.
After the jail transfer of Prof. Devender Pal Singh Bhullar to Amritsar (Punjab), there is likelihood that another Sikh political prisoner Gurdeep Singh Khera may also be shifted to some jail in the state. He is currently languishing in Gulberga Central Jail, Karnataka.
Mohali, Punjab (January 12, 2013): The Bandi Singhs Rihai Committee, that was formed to assist Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa during his hunger strike seeking release of 6 Sikh political prisoners recently addressed media to explain the progress in this matter since the conclusion of 44 days long hunger strike protest of Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa.
Chandigarh/ Mohali (December 19, 2013): Deccan Herald has reported that the demand for the release of Sikh prisoner Gurdeep Singh Khera lodged in the Gulbarga central jail in Karnataka for the last 23-years is garnering support from various quarters in Punjab who are strongly backing the indefinite hunger strike initiated by Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa in protest of the incarceration of the Sikhs.
