Chandigarh/ Punjab (February 21, 2014): As per certain reports the Punjab Government has quietly chalked a way out of the controversy surrounding Punjab DGP Sumedh Saini, whose transfer has been demanded by the opposition Congress party.

Chandigarh/ Punjab (February 19, 2014): While Punjab chief electoral officer (CEO) VK Singh is still in the process of informing India's Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) VS Sampath on the fate of Punjab DGP Sumedh Singh Saini after the former received a report from the Punjab government favouring his continuation as police chief during the ensuing Lok Sabha polls, former Punjab chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh has also joined the issue, accusing Saini of being "a Badal loyalist".

Delhi Court pulled up Sumedh Saini for adopting delaying tactics in 19 years old case

New Delhi, India (November 29, 2013): It is learnt that a Delhi court on Thursday, November 28 pulled up Punjab DGP Sumedh Singh Saini for adopting "delaying tactics" in a 19-year-old kidnapping case against him in which three persons related to a Ludhiana-based business family had 'disappeared' after being picked up by the Punjab police.

Moreover, according of the Government, it was the “emerging volatile” situation in Punjab — owing to orders being issued to execute the death warrant against Punjab CM Beant Singh’s assassin Balwant Singh Rajoana in March — which compelled the state government to immediately appoint Saini as the DGP.

Chandigarh (July 27, 2012): The hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking removal of Sumedh Singh Saini as DGP of Punjab continues in Punjab and Haryana High Court. This petition is moved by NGO named Voices for Freedom (VFF). In recent hearing in the court the VFF counsel countered the allegations levelled by the state government against VFF and told the court that CBI had registered a case of murder and abduction against Sumedh Saini.
