Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi, First turban-wearing Sikh candidate Elected as MP in British Parliament

London: Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi, a Labour party candidate, become the first turban-wearing Sikh to get elected to British Parliament.

Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi won election from Slough constituency. He defeated his nearest rival, Mark Vivis of the Conservative Party, by almost 17,000 votes.

Kuldip Sahota, also from the Labour Party, missed the chance of winning election as he lost in Telford by just 720 votes.

Another Labour party candidate Preet Kaur Gill won the election by over 6,000 votes from Birmingham Edgbaston. She became first Sikh woman to be elected to the British Parliament.
