Lok Sabha 2019 Vote Share in Punjab: AAP Loses; Congress, SAD (B), BJP and BSP Gains

The counting of votes for Lok Sabha elections 2019 was held in Punjab yesterday. Congress won 8 seats, Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) and its ally Bhartiya Janta Party bagged 2 seats each while the Aam Aadmi Party manage to save 1 seat.

Punjab has 13 Lok Sabha seats polling for which was held in seventh and last phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2019 on May 19 (Sunday). The counting of votes was held on Thursday (May 23).

Sweeping through most parts of Indian subcontinent, the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) is set to return to power. As per trends available at the time of writing this news BJP was leading on 292 seats while the Congress trailed far behind with 51. If the trends stay until final results, the BJP would have improved on its 2014 performance when it had won 282 seats on its own in the 543-member Lok Sabha. Adding the seats won by its allies, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance could win 343 seats, up from 336 in 2014.

There are 13 seats of Lok Sabha in Punjab namely Anandpur Sahib, Firozpur, Khadoor Sahib, Hoshiarpur, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Gurdaspur, Bathinda, Sangrur, Patiala, Jalandhar and Faridkot. Polling for all 13 seats was held on Sunday 19 May. The counting of votes began Thursday (23 May) at 8 am.

Gurdaspur seat was bagged by Bhartiya Janta Party in 2014 Lok Sabha Elections when Vinod Khanna former film actor was elected for 4th time from this seat. After Vinod Khanna's demise the seat had fell vacant and by-poll was held in 2017 and the seat was won by Indian National Congress (INC) candidate Sunil Jakhar.
